The presidential candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde, has called on Christians in the country to participate in politics to reset Nigeria.

Makinde who spoke on the sidelines of 50th anniversary of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja on Saturday, said it is wrong for Nigerians to use the excuse that “Politics is dirty, (and) I don’t want to be yoked with unbelievers,” not to participate in politics.

“But we must look at biblical examples,” he advised, and cited the example of Prophet Smauel who, he said, took risks to advance God’s mission when he served as king of Israel.

The Oyo State governor added that some people may say, “As Christians, we do not want to serve under unbelievers,” but cited another biblical example of David, who he noted, “had already been anointed and knew that he would become king. Yet, he went to the palace to serve Saul, from whom God had already departed.”

Makinde argued that Nigeria’s problem is not religion but poverty, and called on the government at all levels, to focus on addressing the issues currently confronting the country.
