The governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has promised to prioritise employment opportunities and improved welfare for youths, women and retired pensioners if elected governor in the 2027 general elections.
Shehu Buba made the pledge on Sunday at a mega rally held at the Games Village in Bauchi, where he received prominent politicians and supporters who defected to the PRP from other political parties.
The candidate said his administration would introduce a different approach to governance, with emphasis on improving the living conditions of the people and creating opportunities for the younger generation.
He expressed appreciation to the electorate for the support he had continued to receive across the state, while assuring the new members of the party that their decision to join the PRP would be justified.
The rally was attended by several political stakeholders, including Alhaji Shehu Barau Ningi, who led the 14 teams of decampees into the PRP.
Shehu Buba challenged his political opponents to focus their campaigns on issues and what they intended to offer the people rather than resorting to blackmail.
He said the party was preparing to commence an extensive campaign across the 20 local government areas of the state once campaign activities are formally activated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He urged his supporters to remain calm and united, insisting that the PRP was positioned to bring about a change in the way the state had been governed over the past seven years.
Speaking at the rally, the led by f the decampees, Shehu Barau Ningi described Senator Shehu Buba as a popular politician whose support base, he claimed, could not be compared with those of other governorship candidates.
Ningi urged Bauchi voters to support Shehu Buba at the polls, expressing confidence that the PRP would emerge victorious in 2027.
He also criticised what he described as campaign calumny by political opponents, urging them to engage voters on issues rather than attacking the PRP candidate.
Ningi said perceived injustice within the All Progressives Congress (APC) was among the factors that prompted his defection to the PRP alongside other political stakeholders.
The rally also featured the presentation of the party’s senatorial candidates, including Aliyu Shehu Barden Gabas for Bauchi South, Salisu Zakaria for Bauchi Central and the incumbent senator from Bauchi North, Dahiwa Kaila Kachalla who is seeking re-election.
The event climaxed with the unveiling of the new decampees to party supporters. As well as thousands of PRP supporters.
