Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu has appealed to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to call his supporters to order over what she described as attacks on supporters of Nigeria Democratic  Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on social media.

Yesufu made the appeal in a post on X, alleging that supporters of Atiku had embarked on what she described as a social media “rampage” against Obi’s supporters, adding that she had also been targeted.

The activist said she expected political decency and sportsmanship between supporters of the two opposition figures, particularly because she had previously worked with Atiku and Obi within the same political party.

According to Yesufu, the focus of opposition supporters should be on challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, rather than attacking one another.

“Having once worked together in the same party, I thought decency would prevail and sportsmanship would mean let the swords be sheathed and let the focus be on the enemy that Nigeria has which is APC and Tinubu. And may the best candidate win!” she wrote.

Yesufu described the alleged attacks as a distraction that would not benefit the opposition.

She noted that supporters should concentrate on convincing Nigerians about the strengths of their preferred candidates.

She further accused those engaging in the attacks of attempting to undermine other opposition figures instead of building support for their own candidate.
